A Growing Demand for Senior Living in Phuket

Phuket has always been an attractive destination for visitors looking for golden beaches, fabulous food, exotic scenery and a colorful cultural heritage. Phuket’s appeal for retirees  is a popular choice for retirees looking to enjoy their retirement in a beautiful, warm, and affordable location.

Why Retire in Phuket

Cost of Living

Several factors lead to Phuket’s appeal to retirees  The cost of living in Phuket is significantly lower than in many Western countries.  This allows retirees to stretch their pensions, investments and savings further.

Fuel, groceries, and food in Phuket are reasonably priced.  Utilities, mobile service, water and electricity are also lower than in Western countries.

Furthermore, Thailand produces a wide variety of foods comparable to what you are accustomed to in the West.  You don’t necessarily need a sizable salary or pension to lead a comfortable life in Phuket.

Warm and Tropical Climate

Boasting a warm and tropical climate with good air quality, making Phuket an attractive alternative to colder and wetter destinations.    Many outdoor activities  start with Phuket’s appeal to retirees.  Some of the activities and hobbies a retiree can participate in are sailing, golfing and diving.  In addition, Phuket has a large expat retiree community that offers a nice social life.

Excellent Health Care Facilities

There are excellent healthcare facilities in Phuket with many hospitals providing services tailored to the needs of older individuals and Phuket is one of the most popular locations for affordable quality medical care.  Procedures at the international hospitals in Phuket can cost a fraction of the price it would take for similar medical procedures in Western countries. https://baanwise.com/thailand-affordable-quality-medical-care/

Two major international hospitals in Phuket are Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Bangkok Hospital Siriroj. These two hospitals cater to their patient with 5-star amenities.

 Shopping & Markets

Besides the local markets and shopping area Phuket offers three big shopping malls, Central Festival, Central Floresta and Robinson Lifestyle.  These “Super Malls” offer everything you could think of.  Cinemas, great restaurants, unbelievable food courts, high-end and reasonably priced clothing shops, western grocery stores and sporting goods stores are all available in Phuket’s large shopping centers.

Easy Visa Applications

The Thai government has introduced visa options aimed at attracting retirees, such as the Non-Immigrant O (Long Stay) visa, which allows eligible foreign nationals aged 50 and above to stay in the country for up to one year, with the option to extend annually. This has made it easier for retirees to settle and enjoy their retirement in Phuket.  https://baanwise.com/thai-retirement-visa/

Another option for retirees is the 10 year Long Term Resident Visa.  The LTR visa offers multiple benefits to the holder including a 10 year visa, reporting to immigration every year instead of every 90 days and fast-track services at Thailand’s international airports among other benefits.
