Known for its friendly people, spicy & yummy cuisine, temples, outstanding beaches and fantastic weather Thailand offers the complete holiday package. With much of the country experiencing a typical tropical climate, this usually means there is sun to be found throughout the whole year. From high season to monsoon rains we explain the different seasons in Phuket.
Let’s visit the official seasons of Thailand’s Andaman Sea – Phuket!
Dry & Cool Season – also called the Winter Season: November to February
The weather from November to February, many consider conditions to be at its best in Phuket, with a cooling wind keeping the sky-high summer temperatures at bay and making the daytime more comfortable with the average daily temperature at 26°C -32°C. It’s sunny most of the time, generally clear and the wind is more of a cool breeze than hot and humid.
The dry season is usually the most popular time for travellers to visit Phuket and is called the “high season” by Thai people. However, this can also mean it’s the most expensive times to travel in Phuket with “peak season” during the Christmas holidays demanding full occupancy and higher prices.
Hot Season – also called the Summer Season: March to June
From March through to May in Phuket the temperatures rise with an average daily temperature of 30°C-36°C and as the cooling winds depart and the humidity rises.
A soon as February the temperatures start to rise, but won’t reach the peak until mid-April to mid-May. Phuket weather will stay hot until late June and possibly July, until it starts to rain. The popular Songkran Festival takes place from April 13-15. This is a mini-peak season when you can participate in public water fights. The Thai new year is the festival to celebrate the arrival of the annual monsoon.
Monsoon Season – Also called the Green Season: July to October
Late May monsoonal weather will usually arrive in Phuket, which is expected to last through to October. Rain will often come in short and heavy downpours, usually in the afternoon or evenings. The rain is also area specific. It may be raining in Patong for a short period of time, but in Rawai it will be sunny. Or just the reverse, raining a little in Rawai, but sunny in Laguna. Either way the rain is refreshing. Peak rainfall levels are usually experienced between mid-September and mid-October, but can last a few days with sunshine in between.
This season is traditionally called the “low season” for tourism in Phuket. This is a great time to visit the country as it is quiet, less tourists visiting, lower rental prices, more availability for villa rentals and bargains can be found on activities.
Leave your weather app at home. From the end of March to the middle of November your app will tell you that it is cloudy with thunderstorms – Every day in Phuket. But it usually doesn’t last very long and it is a refreshing pause in the day.
